It’s Monday morning and we are all back to the day jobs, however our minds are still well and truely blown by what happened on Saturday.
That was amazing!.. we just can’t thank you all enough for turning up in the THOUSANDS.. from where we were stood it looked like the dreams every kid has when they pick up an instrument for the 1st time.
It was chaos prior to actually getting onstage, Parkway drive had brought so much gear that getting to stage was near impossible, but thanks to the brilliant download festival stage crew they pulled everything out of the bag to get us down there and found us a little plot of land to set-up all the “props” with a few mins to spare.
Talking of props.. a huge thanks to our own crew is in order. I say crew but these are people who do it for the same reason we do.. for the love of it, to put on a show that makes us all laugh and enjoy the day.
We asked Dean Barlow if he could make us a Lawnmower Prop, you all saw the result ! (that boy is super talented) and we can’t thank him enough.
John Hanslip told us he was going to make us a train for Urban Surfer… he made TWO !!.. The idea was that he was going to grab someone out of the crowd and then race them over the crowd during the song, however concerns were raised by security (probably rightly so) so poor John frantically modified the trains so that they ended up being the Rod Hull and Emu of metal props, expertly driven by John, Daisy and Rosie.
Matt Burton (Legend) very kindly dropped in at very short notice and learned our set in about 2mins flat as back-up when Paddy was told he needed an operation 2 weeks before the show. Thankfully Paddy was fit and well so didn’t miss out on this amazing experience but we didn’t want Matt to miss out either so we all joined in on the fun. Loved the harmonies that he worked out the night before too !.. top man who also let us use the scarecrow van to take our gear.
Emma Bardill as always had the unfortunate task of getting enough of us together after the show in a sober state to do the press work. She will tell you that after a show like that we tend to be a bit all over the place and as ever did a sterling job in a) arranging the press in the 1st place and b) keeping us organised to do it… she also makes a great clown !
Russ Brockett (onstage satan and sometimes spaceman !) made sure we got there and back by driving our Van which I tried to sabbotage by putting a bit of petrol in the deisel tank 1st thing Saturday morning.. that caused a bit of panic I can tell you..
and of course there was Dave Parnham who helps build the “set” and also got the shitty stick of being the sheep this year… I hope the red custard was too your taste mate ?
Will Tudor was the mad man running around snapping the awesome crowd and the old farts onstage and as always has managed to capture some fucking stunning photos which will start to appear anytime soon (the panoramic shot on our profile is bloody ace thanks to Will)
Andy Copping.. what a wonderful human being he is, 6 times he’s invited us to his party and each and every time we can’t believe he’s done it, but this time he has given us the best day we have ever had as a band. Amazing festival, and a huge privallage to be involved. We can’t thank you enough mate !
And you lot.. you wonderful, crazy, fun loving nutters…. money can’t buy experiences like that and without a crowd it’s just a bunch of mates making a noise. There were so many of you out there on Saturday and when all the arms went in the air for Sheepdip it looked stunning, the roar during the shouty bits blew us backwards and hopefully we made a few new friends out there.
What a day !
Next up ?… announcement later this week
